The 'John Wayne' of CVs
The Mercedes-Benz Unimog has been described by Daimler chairman Dr Dieter Zetsche as ‘the John Wayne of commercial vehicles’.
Speaking at celebrations to mark its 60th anniversary, Dr Zetsche said that a slogan to match the Unimog’s outstanding off-road capabilities could read ‘I don’t need a road — all I need is a task’.
The first Mercedes-Benz Unimog was built in Gaggenau, Germany on June 3, 1951. Its extreme off-road capability has turned the Unimog into an automotive legend over the past six decades.
Here in Ireland, it is frequently seen in the livery of ESB and other utility companies who require a vehicle capable of servicing mountainous and extreme off-road installations.
